WarmUp questions are worth 4 points each towards your "WarmUps" score (100 points total).
Estimate the maximum possible magnetic field that could be produced by an electric toaster at a distance of 50 cm.
Hint: Assume the toaster uses 1000 W of electric power all in the form of a single wire operating at 120 V. (You need not worry about the fact that a real toaster uses AC power).
How does the magnetic field of an infinite current carrying wire depend on distance from the wire? Compare to the electric field of a charged wire. Does this suggest any possibilities about, say, a current carrying plane? A very short (pointlike) segment? Below is a space for your thoughts, including general comments about today's assignment. What was hard or confusing (or cool)? What would you like to spend extra time on in class? Do you see how this subject fits in with the others we have discussed?
