The "First Law of Thermodynamics" is stated in equation 2.8.3 in Reif. In it, there are two more types of "small" quantities. "d" with a bar (as in ) and "d" without a bar (as in ). Please explain the difference between these types.

A brief return to 251: Consider the air in the our classroom (assume the room is sealed so no air can escape). Estimate the work done if the volume of the room were reduced by 1 cubic meter. Also, estimate the change in the total energy of the air during this process. You may need to recall the ideal gas law, PV=nRT.
