To find a maximum in a function, we take its derivative and search for a place where the derivative is zero. Numerically or analytically, this can be awkward if the maximum of the function is extremely narrow. Please explain the method used to deal with this in section 1.5 of your text.

Please explain the difference between a probability distribution, such as the binomial distribution, and a probability density.
