WarmUp Exercise #23, 11/11  (Assignment Due 11/13)

1.  We ended Tuesday's lecture with stating that the differential equation for Φ(φ) is:

d2Φ/dφ2 = -m2Φ,

where -m2 was a separation constant.  (a) What is the solution, Φ(φ),  to this equation?  (b) Can you think of any restriction we may want to put on m? (Hint: what properties do wave functions have that this one may not have?)

2.  We have just looked at the general form for the TISE in 3-d in spherical coordinates.  If I had a particle confined to a spherical shell of radius R, (a) what would the TISE look like?  (b) What would the particle's energy spectrum be?

Answer in the form below, a short answer for each is fine.
This report is due by 8:00 am Thursday morning.
