Please explain in your own words what a focal point is. Try to do this without refering to any particular mirror or lens.

If you have a "makeup mirror" (also known as a magnifying mirror) at home, please try the following experiment. Look at yourself as you slowly back up from the mirror. If you have enough room, you should see your reflection get larger, then go "crazy", then return to focus upside down. the "crazy" transition usually occurs when you are about two meters from the mirror. Please estimate the focal length of the mirror from this data or from your own experience.
