In your own words, please explain the differences and the similarlities between the microcanonical ensemble and the canonical ensemble.

Hint: The microcanonical ensemble is NOT smaller!

An atom with magnetic moment of one Bohr magneton (9.27 x 10-24 ampere-m2) is placed in a 1 T magnetic field. What is its energy in the "up" state? What is its energy in the "down" state? Estimate the respective probabilities of these states at room temperature.
