Physics 105 Daily Exercise for Thursday 9/3 (Due 9/8)
In class today we introduced the idea of equatorial
coordinates and the motion of Sun along the ecliptic. The following
questions will help me figure out how well you understand our first discussions
of this model of
stellar and solar motions.
- Sun's apparent path through the sky relative to the
stars (why its right ascension changes over time) is caused by what
inconsistency between the stars and Sun?
- The ecliptic makes its smallest angle with the
southern horizon during what time of year in the Northern Hemisphere?
- On the day of the vernal and autumnal equinox, Sun
rises in what location on your horizon?
- On the day of the summer solstice, Sun rises in
what approximate location on your horizon?
Answer in the form below, a short answer for each is fine.
This report is due by 8:00 am Tuesday morning.
