What's Physics Good For?

EMERGENCY EJECTING.

Most combat aircraft are equipped with EJECTION SEATS to enable the pilot to get out of the plane quickly in case of an emergency. Air Force pilots dread this event beacuse the ejection and the subsequent opening of the parachute involve huge accelerations and therefore huge forces.

To find out more about the physics and the history of this subject visit the Ejection Page maintained by Martin Herker, a high school physics teacher at North Tama High Schoon in Traer, IA.

F = Ma is old physics, but it can save a high-tech pilot's life.

This Weeks Trivia
The space shuttle Columbia is the oldest of the shuttle fleet. It has completed 18 missions, spending 145.66 days in space. In the process, it has orbited the earth 2421 times for a total of about 64 million miles.

Anyone can do any amount of work provided it isn't the work he is supposed to be doing at the moment.
