These are possible honors option projects:

  • Do one of the "challenge problems" in each chapter we cover. Check with your instructor about problem selection.
  • Image 5 : blank image for spacing
  • Design and build a small working DC electric motor, calculate and measure the torque produced. There are several good web sites with plans for motors. Your report should include all tests of prototypes and calculations you did during the design process.
  • Image 6 : blank image for spacing
  • Design and build a working lightning detector. There are also plans for these on the web.

  • Do a selection of 15 problems from the University of Maryland Fermi problem site. Check with your instructor about problem selection.

  • Write 4 computer programs to calculate the answers toproblems that are similar to ones we do in class, but which have no analytic solutions. Check with your instructor for suggestions on target calculations.
