Need extra help?

There is not enough time in class to answer all questions from homework assignments, exams, labs, etc. If you need more time to ask questions, see your instructors during their office hours. Go to the Course Info webpage.

Study Skills:

This course covers a lot of material and we have a limited amount of class time. You should expect to spend at least two hours outside of class studying on your own for each hour spent in class. Here are a list of practical tips for succeeding in Physics:

  1. Read the chapter before attending lecture. Read each section, not like a novel, but like instructions for putting together a clock - very slowly and carefully. Make sure every word makes sense.

  2. Take notes during every lecture. At home, go back through your notes and make sure that you understand what was presented. Rework the examples. Highlight what you do not understand and be sure to ask your instructors to explain it once again.

  3. Do every homework assignment without fail. You cannot say that you know Physics without being able to use Physics to solve problems. Your exams consist primarily of word problems! Keep your homework with your notes so that you may study from both.

  4. Meet regularly with your fellow classmates to study and to do homework. Two (or more heads) are better than one! There are study rooms available in the University Library if you need a quiet space.

  5. Learn from your mistakes. Rework your incorrect or incomplete problems on all homework assignments and exams.

  6. There are numerous Physics textbooks, study guides, and problem-solvers available at the library and on the Internet. Take advantage of these resources if you need a "second opinion" on the material. See the Useful Links page.

  7. Download and read the procedure before every lab. Your lab instructor is there to assist you, not to do the experiment for you. Groups that are prepared beforehand are often the first to finish!
